I’m about to say something that might make you throw something at your screen. Are you ready? Here goes… It is totally doable to lose weight fast pretty easily. Let me explain. It’s pretty easy on a scientific level, however we are not lab rats. We are humans with emotions and desires that sometimes “fail”. It’s not easy to eat 100% clean or to workout for an hour every single day. None of us are perfect but I am going to tell you the two easiest ways to lose weight quickly. Like 10lbs in 3 weeks, quickly.
But first, I want you to understand where I’m coming from. I’m just a girl who has spent way more time than I care to admit thinking that I should lose some weight. But you wanna know what I want more? To relax on my couch. To eat a cheeseburger/onion rings/soda/ice cream fast food meal. My love for food and dislike for exercise almost always outweighs my desire to lose weight. I bet you can guess how that leaves me feeling. Hint: not good.
I’ve “tried to lose weight” and have “failed” so many times. This is because I’ve either been too drastic with my approach and give up right away, or too relaxed about it that I didn’t see results… And gave up. When I say I’ve tried it all, I mean it. I’ve tried all sorts of diets and workout regimes and I’m not saying that nothing had the potential to work, I’m saying they were either unattainable or ineffective for me. Either I gave up because it was too hard or I gave up because I didn’t see results.
Then, I tried the magic combo. The One That Stuck. Okay. I’m not going to drag this out anymore because you’re my friend and you deserve to hear the magic formula already! HERE IT IS! Cardio + Calorie Counting. Before we move on I have to say that I know I’m not a genius. I know that you’ve all heard of “calorie counting” and “cardio” but that’s not the point. This blog is about testing for the best thing. I’ve tried it all and this combo is by far the best thing from my experience. And here’s why.
I start with calorie counting because [enter cliche here] abs are made in the kitchen. Just kidding. I aint got no abs. I aint even got one ab! But it’s true that weight loss relies way more on what you consume than what you burn. Exercise is great to enhance and speed up the effects but the point is that you can’t eat a tonne of calories and reverse it in the gym.
You know I don’t like to get too much into the science because I have no credentials but I’ll give you the cliffnotes version. Excess calories turn into fat. You need to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. You need to reduce the number of calories you’re consuming in order to be left in a deficit which means less calories come in than go out. It’s simple math.
How many calories you should eat in a day really depends on your height, daily activity level, etc. I eat 1200-1300 calories a day and I’m 5’9″. I personally don’t usually eat more on days that I workout because when I do workout, it’s before bed so I am tired after and just want to sleep. However, if I workout earlier in the day or I am hungry after a nighttime workout, I absolutely will eat even if it takes me over “budget.” My daily activity level is very low because I sit at a desk all day.
To track my calories, I love My Fitness Pal (it’s an app). It’s easier and less tedious than it sounds. I promise. MyFitnessPal makes it especially easy as it remembers your entries which makes it easy for reentry and it will even notice patterns if you eat certain foods together frequently. It also has a feature that allows you to scan bar codes. I can ALWAYS find accurate info on whatever I’m eating, easily. I can’t speak to how it compares to other calorie counting options as this is the only one I’ve tried because I love it. Things being made easy is imperative when you want to lose weight fast.
I find Calorie Counting to be an effective way to lose weight fast and easily because if I’m really craving something I can still have some, but just a bit. I track it and make sure I’m still within my goal by the end of the day. It’s more or less eating in moderation, and portion control. I do see better results when I eat cleaner but even when I do “cheat” and eat “bad calories,” I still lose weight.
This is definitely all about preference because I know some people hate cardio (I used to be/still sometimes am one of those people), some love doing weights and strength training and others can’t exist without their yoga practice. I share cardio as being effective because it totally is for me when I want to lose weight fast. However, I will say that the best exercise is the one you will stick with. Sure, cardio is the most effective way to lose quickly, but that’s irrelevant if you hate it so much that you won’t do it after a week.
Cardio simply rocks at burning fat. Again, I’m not a scientist or a doctor. I don’t know exactly why it works so well but boy oh boy does it ever! I can definitely notice a difference in my results when I skip the treadmill for a week. When I’m really dedicated, I commit to burn 700 calories a session and that usually takes me about 70-80 minutes and I aim for 5 days a week. This sounds like a lot but it doesn’t FEEL crazy to me and I didn’t start out going that hard. But I can and it feels good so I enjoy doing it.
Listen. You don’t even know how much I hate working out and sports and any movement aside from walking at a leisurely pace with a latte in my hand. For me to be able to run and not hate it says something huge. I’m not exaggerating. I feel the most proud of myself when I am consistently showing that treadmill who’s boss because it has always been such a challenge for me.
Two things majorly helped me get over hating the DREADmill. The first is the Couch to 5K app. This app eases you into running. It’s the perfect balance of challenging but doable. The second is watching shows. Even listening to my favorite music wasn’t motivation enough for me. I realized that not even feeling pumped was enough to get me through. I had to be completely distracted and watching shows on my phone was the only thing that made it possible for me!
Another thing… Shortening my eating window. This topic is way too intense to go on about in this post but I strongly encourage you read about it in this article here. I mention it here because I do it most of the time and it really makes staying within my calorie goal that much easier and makes it that quicker to lose weight fast.
I said it was easy in that if you do these two things, I promise you will see results fast. But I’m not going to sugarcoat things. You will be able to lose weight fast if you stick within your calorie goal and burn a good amount of calories 4-5 times a week. When I say easy, I mean that by doing these two things, you WILL see quick results. They work!
